Stronger Families – Supporting Vulnerable Children And Families Through A New Approach To Integrated Family Support Services, 11/08/08 [W]

Consultation ends: 03/10/08

The Welsh Assembly Government is consulting on a document that sets out proposals to use new powers offered by the Legislative Competence Order (LCO) on Vulnerable Children and Child Poverty to reform the law so that local authorities and the NHS would be required to provide Integrated Family Support Services for vulnerable families.

Integrated Family Support Services would be a new multi-disciplinary team of professionals with specialist skills in working together to improve outcomes for children and adults.

The proposal is to focus on the complex needs of families where the following issues impair parenting capacity and where there is concern for the child’s welfare:

  • parental substance misuse;
  • mental health problems or mental illness;
  • learning disabilities; and
  • domestic abuse.

Further information is available on the Welsh Assembly Government website.
