Participation Spice it Up! Practical tools for engaging children and young people in planning and consultations [W]
By Carol Shephard, Dynamix Ltd and Phil Treseder, Save the Children Wales
This publication is based on the work of Dynamix, the workers co-operative based in Swansea which works to promote youth participation across the UK. It considers the ideas and values that underpin Dynamix’s work and considers the practicalities and pitfalls of planning and running sessions. The main section of the book sets out over 40 activities that can be used in participation sessions. These include activities:
To get a session started
Through which information may be gathered and discussion promoted
To involve children and young people in long term planning
To evaluation and close sessions
To energise or boost a session
Information about each activity is clearly set out with explaining how it works, what you need and how it can be developed or adapted. The end of the book provides samples of participation events organised by Dynamix, showing the aims of the events and the activities that have been carried out for them.
