The Role of the Wales Office

Houses of Parliament 1The Office of the Secretary of State for Wales, sometimes referred to as the Wales Office, was set up in July 1999, to liaise between the National Assembly for Wales and Westminster. The Secretary of State for Wales represents Wales’ interests in the Cabinet and in Parliament.

The Secretary of State for Wales is responsible for laying draft legislative competence orders before Parliament.
