Welsh Government publishes responses to consultation on draft Additional Learning Needs Code, 14/06/2019 [W]

The Welsh Government has published the responses to the consultation on the draft Additional Learning Needs Code, which ended on the 22 March 2019.

The consultation received 644 responses, as well as responses from feedback from engagement events with children, young people, parents and regional stakeholders.

In a written statement, Minister for Education, Kirsty Williams AM, said that “over half of the questions received a positive response.” Out of the rest, “none had an absolute majority against the proposal, but nevertheless included a significant numbers of ‘not sure’ or negative responses.”

In the same statement, the Minister said that she intended to put a revised draft of the ALN Code before the Assembly for approval later this year.

The hope is to publish the ALN Code before the end of 2019, and introduce the new system over three years beginning in September 2020.
