Strengthening Child Rights Impact Assessment in Wales , 04/10/17 [W]

04.10.17

Unicef has carried out a study looking at the role of Child Rights Impact Assessments (CRIA) in enabling governments to protect and promote children’s rights. CRIAs can cover policies, legislation, regulations, strategies, projects and programmes.

The use of CRIA is not consistent across the UK, and this briefing paper focuses on the situation in Wales.

CRIA have been in place for a number of years. In 2011, the Rights of Children and Young Persons (Wales) Measure placed a duty on Welsh Ministers to have due regard to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and to undertake this duty in a number of ways including through CRIA.
