26.09.19

Social Care Wales has published a report into the experiences and outcomes of children and young people from Wales who received Secure Accommodation Orders.

The study was commissioned by Social Care Wales and performed by the Children’s Social Care Research and Development Centre (CASCADE) at Cardiff University.

Highlighted findings from the report showed that 38% had positive experiences, 38% had negative experiences and 25% mixed. It also showed that more than 50% of young people were placed in secure accommodation outside Wales.

The study went on to make a variety of recommendations, including “developing a national strategy to provide the right care for these young people with complex needs.”

The report and its findings will now be submitted to the Welsh Government’s Ministerial Advisory Group.
