Development of the Autism (Wales) Bill

05.09.17

Paul Davies, Assembly Member for Preseli Pembrokeshire, is holding a consultation in order to collect views on a Member’s Bill on autism.

Bills are normally introduced by Welsh Government ministers, but non-government members are allowed to introduce Bills when selected by ballot.

Paul Davies AM, has introduced the Autism (Wales) Bill, which is currently out for consultation.

It proposes to meet the needs of children and adults with autism spectrum conditions in Wales. It would give autism its own statutory identity.

The Bill’s other key proposals would also require the Welsh Government to publish a strategy for meeting the needs of children and adults in Wales with autism spectrum conditions; to require key staff to undertake autism training; and ensure that local authorities and health boards can help people with autism spectrum conditions get the timely support they need.

The consultation closes on the 20 November 2017.

To read the rest of the proposals and to respond to the consultation, please visit the National Assembly for Wales website, here.
