Consultation on the Childcare Funding (Wales) Bill, 20/04/18 [W]

The National Assembly for Wales Children, Young People and Education Committee has opened a consultation on the Welsh Government’s Childcare Funding (Wales) Bill.

Introduced by the Minister for Children and Social Care, Huw Irranca-Davies AM, the Bill gives Welsh Ministers the power to provide funding for childcare for qualifying children of working parents and to make regulations about the funding.

It was a commitment in the Welsh Labour 2016 manifesto to provide 30 hours per week of early education and childcare for three and four year olds in Wales. The Bill is intended to meet this aim.

The consultation will consider the Bill’s general principles, potential barrier to implementation, unintended consequences, financial implications and the appropriateness of the powers in the Bill.

The closing date for the consultation is 18 May 2018.
