Young Carers Research
Children in Wales is involved in research projects looking at the needs of young carers and the services that support them.
Young Carers Views
In 2010 and 2011 Children in Wales ran a series of workshops with young carers to identify and raise awareness of their support needs. The young carers at the workshops identified a number of needs relating to services, particularly in relation to accessing education health and social services.
The young carers worked with Children in Wales to produce a video and a leaflet about these needs. This was subsequently presented to the then Deputy Minister for Social Services and Children. The resources were subsequently been referenced by the Welsh Government in its plans for carers, Refreshing the Carers’ Strategy (2013).
The leaflet and the video can be viewed in the resources section of this site.
Young Carers ID Cards
In Autumn 2013 Children in Wales was commissioned by the Welsh Government to undertake a study of the current use of ID cards in young carers services and develop guidelines for local authorities on the use of young carers ID cards.
