The media has revolutionised society and the way that we live, making a huge difference to the amount of information that is available at local, regional, national and international levels. It includes both print media and broadcast media together with a rapidly expanding variety of digital media formats.
While children and young people are clearly able to benefit from the vast range of information available to them, there are also a number of concerns about the relationship between the media and children and young people. These include both concerns about the way children and young people are portrayed in the broadcast and print media and a number of concerns about their safe use of digital media.
Children in Wales’ work in this area has included:
- The Youth in the Media project – this was a year-long research project carried out in 2012/13 which looked at how the media in Wales portrays young people and how young people feel about the way they are portrayed
