Parenting conference, 13/02/17 [W]

On 15 February, a parenting conference will be held in Cardiff to look at how professionals can improve their practice working with families.

Children in Wales is running the event following our previous successful parenting conference. The event promises to be a busy and exciting day, with speakers and delegates looking at how best to develop the skills of those who support parents and carers.

Feedback from delegates at the last parenting conference indicated that the knowledge gained would have a positive impact on how people approach their work with families.

Karen Graham, Emeritus Professor at Glyndwr University, will speak about how to ensure staff have the knowledge, competence and skills needed.  She will suggest how we can work together to promote the value of National Occupational Standards and frameworks.

Honor Rhodes OBE, Director of Strategy at Tavistock Relationships, will speak about the role of supervision in developing excellence in family and parenting workers and their managers.

Lucy Akhtar, Senior Manager for parenting with the Welsh Government will speak about the government’s approach to supporting parents.

Workshop leaders will offer the opportunity to learn about restorative approaches in family engagement, supervision as a time to think and feel, lessons about engaging with young parents, working together in schools to support parents, and modelling your service’s qualification arrangements.
