Welsh political leaders sign up to 5 point Pledge to Children, 04/09/18 [W]

Children in Wales, on behalf of the UNCRC Monitoring Group,  is asking political party leadership candidates in Wales to sign up to supporting a 5 point Pledge to Children.

The UK is party to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). This means there are obligations on the Welsh Government and the National Assembly for Wales to respect, protect and fulfil the human rights of every child in Wales.

The Rights of the Child and Young Persons (Measure) 2011 places a clear duty on all Welsh Ministers, to have ‘due regard’ to the CRC in exercising all of their functions

The Welsh Government and the National Assembly for Wales have made a real difference to the lives of children in Wales, including those most vulnerable.

We are now asking candidates for leadership of parties in Wales to help continue this work by pledging to:

  • Make children a priority for their party
  • Take steps to ensure that the rights of all children are promoted, protected and respected
  • Listen to children and take account of what they tell me
  • Make sure that children’s rights are always taken into account
  • Be a passionate advocate for children’s rights throughout Wales
