Welsh Government white paper on curriculum reform out for consultation, 28/01/2019 [W]

The Welsh Government has published its white paper which establishes its proposals for the legislative foundations of the new curriculum.

The paper describes how the new curriculum will be divided into six Areas of Learning and Experience (AoLEs).

It will remove Key Stages, and replace them with Progression Steps for ages 5, 8, 11, 14 and 16. It is hoped that this will allow teachers to take into account each learner’s individual abilities, experiences and rates of learning and understanding.

English and Welsh, Relationships, Sexuality Education and Religious Education will be statutory, with rights to withdraw from RE and RSE.

The consultation focuses on the legislative framework for the curriculum. The detailed content of the new curriculum will be published in April 2019.

The consultation closes on 25 March 2019.
