Welsh Government to legislate on play opportunities for children, 02/04/12 [W]

The Welsh Government has launched a consultation on play opportunities for children and will become the first country in the world to legislate in this area.

The 12-week consultation considers draft regulations and statutory guidance that would place a duty on local authorities to assess the provision of play and recreational opportunities for children in their areas. The assessments will be used to create action plans for play in each area of Wales.

The Welsh Government will consider the next stage of the duty once the assessments have been completed. It is expected that the The Children and Families (Wales) Measure 2010 (Play Sufficiency Assessment) Regulations 2012 will come into force in Autumn 2012.

Full details are available on the Welsh Government website.
