Welsh Government announces plans to reform local government elections [W] 01/02/2018

Welsh Government has announced plans to change the ways that local democracy will work, after a consultation last year received 1000 responses.

Under the new proposals, 16 and 17 year olds will be allowed to vote in council elections, as well as foreign nationals legally resident in Wales.

Automatic registration would help ensure that fewer people are left off the electoral register.

Other proposals include piloting new methods, like digital voting, mobile polling stations and voting at unorthodox places like supermarkets, local libraries, leisure centres and railway stations.
