Treat children who experience domestic abuse as victims – Joint Committee on the Draft Domestic Abuse Bill, 14/06/2019 [W/E/S/N.I.]

The Joint Committee on the Draft Domestic Abuse Bill has recommended that children who experience domestic abuse, as witnesses or in intimate relationships, should be treated as victims and given the support that they need.

The Committee has recently published its report into the Draft Domestic Abuse Bill. The Bill would establish a Domestic Abuse Commissioner to promote best practice in providing services to survivors and perpetrators of domestic abuse.

The Committee made a variety of recommendations based on their scrutiny of the Bill, including making the proposed Commissioner more independent than in the draft Bill, and that government departments should be included with the bodies who have a duty to co-operate with the Commissioner.
