Statement on Child Advocacy Services, 12/12/07 [W]

The Minister for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills has made a statement on advocacy services for children and young people in Wales.

In the statement, the Minister announces the publication of a summary of responses to the consultation held early in 2007 on new service models for advocacy services.

The Minister said that she is considering establishing a new advocacy development and performance unit within the Assembly, whose key function will be to develop the national service, establish an independent scrutiny board, and provide a strategic framework and leadership for implementing advocacy nationally and locally. She is also considering establishing an independent board of nonexecutive members, including children and young people, that would have a scrutiny and quality assurance role, and would report to the Assembly Government.

Final decisions are to be deferred until the Children and Young People’s committee has completed its review into advocacy services

The full statement is available in the Record of Proceedings for 11 December 2007.
