School standards bill laid before Assembly, 23/04/12 [W]

The School Standards and Organisation (Wales) Bill has been laid before the National Assembly for Wales by Leighton Andews, Minister for Education and Skills.

The new legislation will put Welsh in Education Strategic Plans, free school breakfasts in primary schools, and school-based counselling on a statutory basis, and aims to reduce bureaucracy in schools as well.

The bill also contains provisions to reform the statutory process for school organisation with the intention that decisions will be taken locally where possible.

The full news item from the Welsh Government is available here. You can also track the progress of the bill on the National Assembly for Wales website.
