Report reveals impact of welfare cuts in Wales, 18/02/13 [W]

A report commissioned by the Welsh Government has shown that wefare cuts will have a negative impact on the people and economy of Wales, with low and middle-income families most affected.

The report, Analysing the impact of the UK Government’s welfare reform in Wales – Stage 2 examines how tax and benefit changes will affect individuals and families.

In Wales, Disability Living Allowance accounts for a large amount of the cuts, with £590 million reduction in tax credits and benefit entitlements due by 2014-15.

It is feared that this will push the most vulnerable families further into poverty, while only minimal improvements are expected in terms of jobs and employment, according to the research.
