Refugee Week Wales 2012, 13/06/12 [W]

This year, Wales will again be celebrating Refugee Week with a fantastic range of exciting and diverse events from 16-24th June.

Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and Wrexham will be where most of the action is.  There are also some events in Carmarthen and Aberystwyth.  The fun kicks off on Saturday 16th June with Umbrella  Parades through Cardiff and Wrexham, with Swansea holding a Global Village event at the National Waterfront Museum.  There will be events in all four venues throughout the week.

Some of the experiences not to be missed include ‘The Container’ –  an interactive installation of a shipping container which will be a hub for exhibitions and performances at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea by the refugee and asylum seeking community. Performances include drama, digital media and film, music, dance and art.  In Newport a Celebration event will be held at the Riverfront on 23rd June.  Through June the Museum of Wales at St Fagan’s will be hosting a Refugee House where visitors will be able to experience the asylum journey, find out more about where refugees and asylum seekers come from and take the ‘citizenship test’.
