Quit for Wales campaign, 06/11/13 [W]

Ash Wales has launched a new campaign to encourage smokers in Wales to give up the habit.

The aim of the campaign is to highlight the costs and health risks of smoking. This will help to meet the Welsh Government’s target of reducing the number of smokers to 16% from the current 23% by 2020.

Smoking kills 5000 people a year in Wales, and costs the taxpayer £800 million.

The campaign will run for 6 months, and is supported by the Welsh rugby team. The majority of smokers say they want to quit, and this campaign calls for more help such as training for health visitors, and flexible help in Welsh workplaces for those giving up cigarettes.
