Qualifications Wales Bill passed by Assembly, 16/06/15 [W]

A new law that will establish a body to oversee qualifications in Wales has been passed by the National Assembly for Wales.

The new body will regulate awarding bodies and non-degree qualifications and ensure the standards of the qualifications in Wales.

In the education strategy, Qualified for Life, the Minister for Education and Skills, Huw Lewis, set out the objective for qualifications in Wales should be internationally respected and make people ready for work or further study.

The new law is intended to help put that in place.

The Bill is expected to receive Royal Assent over the summer, and the new body will take up its functions in September 2015.
