One in four Welsh parents won’t spend enough time with family this Christmas, 23/12/16 [W]
Welsh parents are worried about not having enough time to spend time with family this Christmas, according to new research by charity Action for Children.
One in four Welsh parents (25 per cent) said they are worried they will not have enough time to spend with their family over the Christmas period, while 22 per cent are concerned about not spending enough time with friends.
The survey revealed that one in four (25 per cent) parents said that finding the time to go shopping for presents adds to their worries this time of year, with 7 per cent concerned about finding the time to do food shopping and making the Christmas meal (6 per cent).
Brigitte Gater, Action for Children’s director for children’s services in Wales, said:
“Christmas is a magical time for children, but it can be overwhelming for parents trying to fit everything in. It’s a holiday for parents and carers too, who should get to enjoy a well-deserved break and spend time with their loved ones.
“Happy parents make happy children so don’t be afraid to ask for help if you’re feeling overwhelmed by all the preparations. Make sure you put time aside to do something for yourself and for fun and engaging activities for the whole family.”
Action for Children’s top tips for a worry-free Christmas:
- Focus on what’s important like sharing special moments and experiences with friends and family rather than trying to fit everything in
- Make sure to put time aside to relax and rest and do something that makes you happy – remember that Christmas is your holiday too
- Don’t be afraid to ask for a helping hand – getting family and friends involved in Christmas preparations is a great way of bonding and creating memories
- Plan fun, simple activities for the whole family – a walk outdoors or playing a board game and doing crafts at home
