NSPCC Project: “Professionals Breaking the Silence” Supporting professionals dealing with children’s disclosures of abuse

The NSPCC is launching a brand new project called “Professionals Breaking the Silence”. The project aims to develop a practical resource that will support professionals working with children to confidently deal with disclosures of abuse and to improve children’s experiences of the disclosure process. This is in response to NSPCC research which found that too often children’s disclosures go unheard and unnoticed. For example, young people have said that although the physical and emotional signs of abuse were there, no one picked up on what was happening: “I never went and asked for help, but no-one ever asked me”.

A crucial first step to developing a resource for professionals is to hear directly from individuals about their experiences of dealing with disclosures.  The NSPCC have developed a survey and are inviting responses from everyone who works with children and young people either directly or indirectly. The survey takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and all submissions are anonymous. The survey will close on Sunday 25 March.
