New safeguarding powers to come into force in 2016, 19/12/14 [W]

A new legal obligation on public bodies to report any child or adult believed to be at risk of abuse or neglect will come into force in 2016, the Welsh Government has announced.

This new obligation will be implemented under the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act which received Royal Assent on 1 May 2014. It will be part of a new statutory framework for care and support in Wales.

The framework will also aim to strengthen safeguarding in Wales introducing a new structure for Safeguarding Boards that will cover both adults and children, and putting in place a National Independent Safeguarding Board to give advice and securing improvement in the local Boards.

You can find out more about the proposed new framework on the Welsh Government website.
