New recommendations for vitamin D intake, 21/07/16 [W]

The Minister for Social Services and Public Health has accepted recommendations for the intake of vitamin D.

The Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) has recommended that everyone aged over one year should aim to take 10 micrograms of vitamin D per day. The recommendation, following an extensive evidence review, replaces previous guidelines which were limited to pregnant and breastfeeding women and those aged 65 years and over. The new advice also includes babies from birth to one year, recommending that this age group receive between 8.5 – 10 micrograms of vitamin D.
