New Neonatal Transport Service, 5/1/11 [W]

A dedicated fast response neonatal transport service for South Wales and was introduced on 5 January 2011. The 12-hours-a-day service is being run by the all-Wales neonatal network and supported by the Welsh Ambulance services NHS Trust and local health boards. It  has been set up so that ill and premature babies can be moved quickly between units if necessary to get the right level of care.

A new clinical information system has also gone live this month, so that standardised clinical information will be collected for all babies in Wales requiring special, high dependency or intensive care throughout their stay in hospital, and additional staff for neonatal services are also being appointed in both South and North Wales.

More information is available in the Welsh Assembly Government press release.
