New legislation to improve school standards passed by National Assembly, 15/01/13 [W]

The School Standards and Organisation (Wales) Bill has been passed by the National Assembly for Wales.

The Bill addresses school improvement and intervention in schools causing concern. It also includes provisions on free schools meals and flexible charging for school meals, as well as parent evenings, Welsh in Education strategic plans, and school based counselling.

The final version of the new legislation was passed in the National Assembly plenary meeting on 15 Janaury.

The Bill is now at Stage 4 of the Assembly process, and will be put forward for Royal Assent after a 4 week period. This is a chance for the Secretary of State for Wales of the Attorney General or Counsel General to raise any issues of legislative competence regarding the Bill.
