New Campaign to Promote New Vaccine Against Meningitis, 29/08/06, [W]

A new campaign has been launched by the Assembly Government to encourage parents to have their children immunised against pneumococcal disease which can cause serious illnesses such as meningitis, septicaemia and pneumonia if it enters the bloodstream. Cildren will be routinely offered the new pneumococcal vaccine as part of the routine immunisation programme from the 4th Septmenber 2006. There will be a catch-up campaign for children up to two years who have already started their immunisations. They will be contacted by their GP in the next few months to be vaccinated.
