New action plan to tackle poverty in Wales published, 25/06/12 [W]

The Welsh Government has published a new action plan outlining how it intends to tackle poverty from 2012-16.

The Tackling Poverty Action Plan contains measures aiming to reduce the number of children growing up in poverty, including the expansion of the Flying Start programme. Secondly it aims to help people gain employment and get out themselves out of poverty by forging links with business and focussing on the needs of NEETs (young people who are not in eductation, employment or training). It also intends to mitigate the worst effects of existing poverty by improving quality of life for individuals and communities through free school meals, the social fund, and its upcoming Housing Bill as well as regeneration programmes and support for those with disabilities.

The Tackling Poverty Action Plan is available to download from the Welsh Government website.
