Ministers outlines plans for Social Services bill, 24/01/12 [W]

Gwenda Thomas, the Deputy Minister for Children and Social Services, has made a statement in the senedd outlining the contents of a new Social Services bill for Wales.

The bill, which is planned to be introduced in October 2012, will contain provisions for a statutory basis for adult protection, and clearer links between adult and child protection. The training and conduct of professionals will be regulated through the new legislation.

The new law will also aim to simplify the adoption process by placing a duty on local authorities to form a single adoption agency.

The Social Services bill is a key action in the Welsh Government’s Programme for Government and is intended to deliver the aims set out by Sustainable Social Services for Wales – A Framework for Action, the strategy document published in February.

The full transcript of the Deputy Minister’s oral statement is available from the National Assembly for Wales’ Record of Proceedings.
