Minister for Children and Social Care: Wales needs more people to become foster carers, 15/05/2018 [W]

Marking the start of Foster Care Fortnight, Minister for Children and Social Care, Huw Irranca-Davies AM, has written to foster carers throughout Wales, asking them to help inspire others to become foster carers.

One of the key aims of the Welsh Government’s National Fostering Framework for Wales is to encourage more people to foster, particularly with local authority fostering services.

There are 4,400 foster carers in Wales with an average age of 55, and the Welsh Government notes the need for local authorities to recruit more carers from a wide variety of backgrounds and age.

The Minister thanked foster carers for the work that they do and recounted experiences he has had meeting foster carers and the children and young people who have experienced care.
