Membership of Child Poverty Expert Group announced, 16/04/08 [W]

The Minister for Social Justice and Local Government has announced the membership of an expert panel on child poverty.

The Group members are:

  • Dr Samantha Clutton, Research and Policy Officer at Barnardo’s Cymru;
  • Anne Crowley, Policy and Research Director at Save the Children;
  • Professor David Gordon of Bristol University;
  • Dr Peter Kenway, Director of the New Policy Institute.

Caroline Kelham Head of the Department for Work and Pensions and Department for Children, Schools and Families Child Poverty Unit has been appointed as an ex-officio member. The Expert Group will work with Huw Lewis AM as chair of the group to provide advice to and challenge the Welsh Assembly Government on meeting its child poverty targets.

The group will also advise the Assembly Government on the development of a new Child Well Being Monitor for Wales. The Monitor, which will be produced in September 2008, will track the quality of life of children and young people in Wales across a range of dimensions, including child poverty.
