Improvement in children’s oral health in Wales

The Welsh Government has welcomed news that the proportion of five year olds with poor dental health in Wales is continuing to fall.

The report from the Welsh Oral Health Information Unit comes from their annual report into the dental health of five year olds.

The report shows:

  • A reduction in the proportion of children with decay between 2007-2008 (47.6%) and 2015-2017 (34.2%)
  • The mean decay experience across Wales dropped from 1.98 in 2007-2008 to 1.22 in 2015-2016.
