Happy 5th Birthday to “Eat Carrots be Safe from Elephants” – The Powys Junior Safeguarding Children’s Board, 25/07/13 [W]

10 July was the 5th Anniversary of the establishment of the Eat Carrots be Safe from Elephants group which was set up to ensure that the views of Children and Young People in Powys are represented on the Local Safeguarding Children Board LSCB in July 2008.

The Eat Carrots group was one of the first Junior LSCB’s in Wales to be set up, at the request of the Powys LSCB.

The group meets as a large group during school holidays and in smaller groups throughout the year. It is run by the Tros Gynnal Plant Powys Advocacy Team. The LSCB has consulted with this group extensively on issues such as bullying, domestic abuse and child protection. The group can bring issues to the attention of the LSCB and is asked to consult on other issues to inform the LSCB.

Amanda Lewis, Strategic Director of People and Cllr Melanie Davies Portfolio Holder Children and Partnerships (PCC) joined in the celebrations and paid tribute to TGP and the young people involved in the pioneering young people’s safeguarding advisory group, congratulating them on their achievements. Amanda and Mel presented certificates to the young people before helping to eat the most wonderful cake which looked too good to eat.

More information on the amazing work of the Eat Carrots Group can be found on the young people’s page of the Powys LSCB web site http://www.powys.gov.uk/index.php?id=5204&L=0 which highlights the work they have undertaken so far .
