Funding for local authority play services in Wales, 03/02/14 [W]

The Welsh Government has announced new funding of £1.25 million to develop children’s play opportunities.

Local councils will be able to use the funding for portable play equipment, to focus on play for disabled children, as well as to develop parks with rope swings, timbler frames and to encourage street play.

Play is essential for children’s development, education and well-being.

Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) says that children have the right to play and relax. Wales was the first country in the UK to include the UNCRC in its domestic law.
