Funding changes to support Wales’ most disadvantaged pupils, 26/03/17 [W]

Kirsty Williams AM, Cabinet Secretary for Education, has announced changes to the way money is used to support the most disadvantaged pupils in Wales.

The changes will benefit children in local authority care, as well as those in nursery and reception classes. The Pupil Deprivation Grant will also be renamed to the Pupil Development Grant (PDG) and will receive £90 million of investment from the Welsh Government over the next financial year. The programme will undergo significant expansion, from the amount allocated to the youngest pupils, to extending funding to pupils who are not educated at school. More support will also be provided to care experienced young people by their local authority.
