First Ballot for Assembly Members to pass legislation to take place, 13/6/07 [W]

The National Assembly for Wales’ new powers enable Assembly Members to take part in a ballot to put forward proposals for new legislation, and it has been announced that the first such ballot will take place on 26 June 2007. There will be a ballot for Legislative Competence Orders (LCO) and a ballot for Assembly Measures.  (More details about these are available in the Policy Making in the National Assembly for Wales section of this site).  Any Assembly Member, other than members of the Welsh Assembly Government can enter the ballot and the winners will be chosen by an “electronic shuffle”.  The successful LCO and Measure will then go before plenary.

More information is available in the National Assembly for Wales press release.
