Expansion of Flying Start Programme, 22/11/11 [W]

The Welsh Government has announced a £55m expansion of the Flying Start programme which will double the number of children who will benefit from it.

Flying Start is a government programme which provides access to free part-time quality childcare, an enhanced Health Visiting service, access to Parenting Programmes and Language and Play sessions to families in the most disadvantaged areas in Wales.

Extra funding for the programme was announced by Gwenda Thomas at a recent conference in the Millenium Stadium. Speaking to delegates, the Deputy Minister for Children and Social Services emphaised the importance of preventative services in the early years:

“The increased investment is an exciting opportunity for us to build on all this good work. We can make a real difference for a much larger number of families and children.”

More information about the Flying Start programme is available on the Welsh Government website.
