Existing teacher training incentives extended to 2019-20 academic year, 16/01/2019 [W]

Kirsty Williams AM, the Education Minister, has announced that the current teacher training incentives will be extended into the academic year 2019-20.

The current incentives are graded to attract new teachers into specific subjects for which there is particular demand, with the highest qualifications. Up to £20,000 is available to those who train to teach priority subjects such as maths, chemistry, physics, or computer science.

There are additional incentives for those who wish to train to teach secondary education in Welsh.

The intention of the extension is to incentivise the recruitment of teachers and support them along their career path.
