The 8th Annual Eurochild Conference, which was hosted by Children in Wales in Cardiff this week, was a huge success, concluding with a call to the EU and its member states not to risk cutting investment in children’s futures. More needs to be done to tackle deprivation in vulnerable families. The Europe 2020 Strategy was discussed as an important opportunity to give a new impetus to the fight against child poverty in the EU.

The conference,Tackling Child Poverty by Strengthening and Supporting Families, was attended by delegates from all across Europe. Experts came together for the three day event in Cardiff to discuss child and family poverty. In his speech, Wales’ First Minister, Carwyn Jones, emphasised that he and the Welsh Government were determined to prioritize child poverty in Wales so that the 2020 Target to eradicate child poverty is met despite the current economic challenges.
