End Child Poverty Network Cymru outlines concerns on welfare reform, 18/01/2012

The End Child Poverty Network Cymru has produced a new briefing paper raising concerns about cuts to welfare, and calling on the Welsh Government to carry out a full analysis of the impact that the Welfare Reform Programme will have in Wales, and how its impact on families can be mitigated.

The paper particularly highlights issues that will affect children and young people, including cuts to childcare support, reductions in support for disabled children, and changes to loan parent arrangements.

The Welfare Reform Programme’s aim is to simplify the present system and to ensure that employment is an effective route out of poverty. However, it is feared that the system does not provide an adequate safety-net for the most vulnerable, and that it will lead to greater levels of deprivation for many families.
