Education critical to making the Senedd and Elections (Wales) Bill a success, 28/06/2019 [W]

Although they agree with the general principles of the Bill, the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee says that awareness-raising and education about lowering the voting age will be needed.

The Committee has recently finished examining the Bill. It said it was worried about the “apparent lack of an action plan” for education.

If 16 and 17 year olds in Wales are to take part in the 2021 Assembly elections, there’s not a lot of time left to put in place an education programme, the Committee said.

It was a chance to look at improving citizenship education for people of all ages, the Committee said.
