Councils to pilot integrated family support teams, 24/03/09 [W]

Gwenda Thomas, Deputy Minister for Social Services, has announced that the Welsh Assembly Government is seeking three councils to pilot the use of multi-agency teams to help safeguard children whose parents have complex needs.

The integrated family support teams will bring together social workers, family workers, substance misuse professionals, nurses and health visitors to work directly with families to protect and support vulnerable children.

Three councils will each receive £1.8m over the next three years to support the roll-out of the new teams, focusing initially on supporting families where one or more parent has a substance misuse problem. The initiative will be rolled out across Wales over the next five years.

The move follows the Assembly Government’s proposed Children’s and Families (Wales) Measure.
