Children’s Commissioner for Wales launches new child poverty strategy, 17/10/12 [W]

The Children’s Commissioner for Wales has marked the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty by releasing his new child poverty strategy, outlining a child-centred approach to tackling poverty and deprivation.

The Commissioner is concerned that with more and more families being pushed into poverty, children in Wales face a lifetime of inequality and exclusion.

The strategy praises work being done through the Welsh Government Communities First project in schools and communities, but also highlights that work should focus on children themselves as well as families and communities. Children have their own rights under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child to have an adequate standing of living that meets their needs.
