Children and Young People’s Committee backs literacy and numeracy priorites, 31/05/12 [W]

The Children and Young People’s Committee of the National Assembly for Wales has given its support to calls by inspectorate Estyn which calls for literacy and numeracy standards to be prioritised by the Welsh Government.

The issue was raised in the Estyn annual report, which provides an overview of standards and performance of schools, and other education and training providers in Wales. Literacy and numeracy were highlighted as areas that need to be addressed in Wales.

The Assembly Committee has reccomended that guidance for teachers and school leaders on best practice should be included in the new Literacy and Numeracy Framework.
