Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre: Annual Report 2007-08, 21/04/08 [W/E/NI/S]

The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre’s Annual Report shows that the number of people arrested for child sex offences has tripled in the last year.

Figures published show that 297 child sex offenders were arrested in 2007/08.

The Centre’s annual report also shows that 5,812 reports were made of online sexual abuse from child protection workers and members of the public – a 76 per cent rise on last year.

The work of the organisation in the last year led to 131 children being safeguarded from abuse, and six paedophile rings being dismantled.
