THIS IS ME Campaign launched by Welsh Government’s Live Fear Free [W] 29/01/2018

The Live Fear Free campaign, the Welsh Government’s resources to tackle violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence has launched “THIS IS ME”.

The This Is Me campaign hopes to challenge our ideas about gender by asking people to talk about their experiences online using #ThisIsMe.

It’s hoped that the positive examples used in the adverts and materials for the campaign—a muddy girl playing with a truck and young man applying make-up for instance—will show that everyone can reach their potential unlimited by gender stereotypes.

The campaign will also be part of a longer term campaign that will grow to look at other causes and consequences of abuse and violence.

The campaign was developed by Life Fear Free in conjunction with experts and survivors from the Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Communications Group. This included representatives from Welsh Women’s Aid, Bawso, Safer Wales, Survivor’s Trust (Sexual Violence Sector), Welsh Local Government Association, Cardiff University, Police, and Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service.

You can read the Welsh Government release about the campaign here, with quotes from stakeholders. You can access the campaign information from the Live Fear Free website here.

The Live Fear Free website also contains information on how to get help if you’re concerns about domestic abuse or violence.
