Assembly elects new Subordinate Legislation Committee, 19/6/07 [W]

A new Subordinate Legislation Committee was elected by the National Assembly for Wales on Tuesday 19 June 2007. The Committee is the first committee elected under the Government of Wales Act 2006.  It will be responsible for scrutinising proposals for legislation from the Welsh Assembly Government.  It will examine whether making new subordinate legislation is the best way of implementing particular policies and ensure that any new legislation is clear, fully bilingual and fit for purpose.

Under the new arrangements introduced by the Government of Wales Act 2006, it is now the role of the Welsh Assembly Government to make subordinate legislation.
