A One Day Course

Young Carers and young Adult Carers are a group of young people who are often overlooked and forgotten about by services.  With the implementation of the Social Services and Wellbeing Act 2014 and its emphasis on Assessment for Support for Young Carers and Young Adult Carers, they are now in a unique position to access support in their own right.  This course will explore the issues for Young Carers and Young Adult Carers, how you can support them and what are their needs when it comes to working with and advocating on their behalf.  The trainer has spent many years working with young carers and young adult carers, championing their rights and ensuring their voices are heard in decisions that affect them.

This training course will consider:

  • The definition of a young carer
  • Children’s rights and Young Carers
  • Defining Young Adult Carers
  • Human Rights and Young Adult Carers
  • The types of Caring Roles
  • Exploring the range of caring roles in the context of disability, mental ill health, substance misuse, and learning disabilities
  • Caring for parents/care givers and/or siblings
  • Legislative framework for supporting young carers
  • Focus on Social Services and Well-being Act 2014
  • Explore Well-being Goals
  • What are issues for Young Carers?
  • How may you support Young Carers and Young Adult Carers?
  • The voice of young carers

  • How to find out what matters to individual young people
  • Exploring your role in supporting Young Carers

Who is the Training for?
The training is aimed at those:
Working with young people who may have a caring role, Staff who are taking on responsibility for supporting young carers, Working with Young Adult Carers, Responsible for managing staff working with young carers, Responsible for Commissioning Young Carer Services

Cancellations can only be accepted in writing. Cancellations received three weeks before the date of the event will be refunded in full, less a £10 administration fee.
